The Virginia Transportation Research Council, a partnership of the Virginia Department of Transportation and the University of Virginia, has released its annual report highlighting the research results it has produced during 2007.

Motorcycle related only:

 Conducted its annual survey of safety-belt and motorcycle-helmet use in Virginia

The study determined that the rate of safety-belt use in 2007 was 79.9 percent – up slightly from the 2006 rate of 78.7 percent, but lower than
Virginia’s all-time high of 80.4 percent in 2005.

The rate of motorcycle helmet use was 96.1 percent. In the previous 15 surveys, virtually all motorcycle drivers and passengers that were observed did use a helmet.
